Lamp Producers
Recolight is the only specialist WEEE lamp compliance scheme in the UK. Set up by the lamp industry, with Philips, Osram, GE and Havells Sylvania on the Recolight board, and now with over 60 members. We consistently exceed our legal obligations making sure that all possible measures are taken to increase recycling rates, and ultimately prevent WEEE lamps from entering landfill.
We are a producer led compliance scheme, established and operated by the lighting industry, on behalf of the lighting industry. Our 60 members include the four biggest names in lighting: Philips Lighting, Osram, GE and Havells Sylvania.
Together, our 60 members represent the overwhelming proportion of all lamps put on the UK market; all of our members can be confident that we are actively seeking to maximise recycling rates and that they are doing the right thing.
- As a not for profit company; any excess funds are retained and used for future years' recycling to the continued benefit of all in the lighting industry.
- All our members have access to our UK wide network of business and consumer collection points giving your customers access to free of charge recycling services.
- No other Producer Compliance scheme has set up such a dedicated waste lamp collection system. Waste lamp collection containers can be provided free of charge at our members premises, if required.
- Our lamp recycling subcontractors are properly licensed and qualified with good health and safety track records. You have peace of mind that your customers' returned waste lamps are promptly removed and treated by expert companies who will provide you with the statutory paperwork.
- We have funded the recycling of more than 50 million lamps in the last two years, which has prevented nearly a fifth of a tonne of mercury from entering landfill. This means we have recycled more items of WEEE than any other UK Producer Compliance Scheme.
- We never use WEEE Regulation 9.2 as some schemes do - the customers of our members do not need to arrange their own recycling
- Recolight are active in lobbying government in UK and Europe to get the right future legislation for the lighting industry. It is as a direct result of our lobbying that the latest proposal for the new WEEE directive now has a specific recycling target for lamps.
- As such, we are recognised by the UK government as the authoritative source of advice on WEEE for lamps.
