Danny Gladdish, the manager at Abacus Electrical Supplies in Rochester says that the business decided to provide their customers with the facilities to drop off their end-of-life CFLs “because we have always prided ourselves on providing the best possible quality of service and this was another way of being able to deliver that service.” He also said that Abacus Electrical Supplies recognized that being a central collection point for customers in the local area to return their waste WEEE lamps offered both themselves and their customers a flexible and sustainable recycling solution.

Albion Electric in Leeds has also benefited from offering their customers an easy solution for recycling. Their director Craig Jefferies says, “We think that it is important that everyone “does their bit” in reducing waste. When the WEEE Regulations came into effect we weren’t sure how much WEEE, especially how many lamps, there would be coming back down the supply chain, but we now return up to four containers of end-of-life GDLs every week.”

A.N. Supplies in Bridgend had overwhelming demand from their customers to offer a recycling service which has become very popular and well-used; “Offering a recycling service has added value to our business as it has definitely led to an increase in customers, and what’s more, customers using the recycling point then get to know our range of products and return to buy them. We’ve also seen an increase in customers replacing what they recycle with new products from our shelves,” said the company’s Environmental Manager Barry Simpson.
