Recolight Shortlisted for the Sustainability Leaders Awards

Recolight is pleased to be shortlisted for the Sustainability Leaders Awards 2013. This award, which is the second Recolight has been shortlisted for in the last two weeks, recognises those companies that have demonstrated true leadership and innovation and are making genuine progress in embedding sustainability throughout their operations.

Recolight has been shortlisted in the ‘Waste & Resource Management’ category which looks for best examples of effective waste and resources management, including waste minimisation, landfill diversion and recycling/resuse.

This year the entry-level hit an all-time high, with more entries from more unique organisations than in any year since the awards began including multi-national corporations, retailers, manufacturers, luxury brands, SMEs, public sector organisations, Universities and more.

Recolight’s marketing manager, Suzanne Castine commented: ‘Going above and beyond is an ethos at the heart of everything we do here at Recolight. We are, therefore, proud that our continued efforts to lead the lighting industry forward have been recognised. Since Recolight was set up in 2007, we have funded the recycling of over 175 million waste lamps, preventing 700kg of mercury from entering landfill.’

As a WEEE compliance scheme for the lighting industry, Recolight operates as non-profit and is funded by its industry wide membership. Members join the scheme to demonstrate their commitment to keeping WEEE lamps out of landfill.

Recolight provides free lamp recycling for UK businesses with large quantities of waste lamps and also has options in place for those with smaller quantities. Alongside this, Recolight has a network of nearly 400 open collection points across the UK located at electrical wholesalers.

In the last three years Recolight has established a network of over 800 collection points for household low energy light bulbs, further demonstrating that Recolight goes beyond its legal obligations as a WEEE compliance scheme.

The awards ceremony will take place on 21st November at the Grand Connaught Rooms.
