Signify streetlight hailed for its sustainability

The Philips Copenhagen LED Gen2 exterior light has been hailed for its sustainability by the environmental metric platform One Click LCA in its Low Carbon Manufacturing Awards.
The Copenhagen LED Gen2 reduces its product-stage (A1–A3) carbon footprint by 28 per cent — saving 25 kg CO₂e per unit — by using 88 per cent bio-based polyethylene and 88 per cent recycled aluminum.
Manufactured with 77 per cent renewable energy and ISO 50001/14001 compliance, it also features a design with replaceable and recyclable components to support circularity.
The distinctive Copenhagen family was originally co-designed in cooperation with the Copenhagen’s Office of City Architecture in the 1960s.
The Gen2 builds on the heritage and boasts efficacy of up to 167 lm/W.
Lumen maintenance is 100,000 hours at L98.
It’s upgradeable with its driver and other electrical components replaceable using standard tools. The aluminum parts are recyclable and can be used for new die-cast aluminum. The polyethylene canopy can be recycled to make new plastic parts. The flat glass is also recyclable and can be used to produce new glass parts.
The Copenhagen features Signify’s Service Tag, a QR-based identification system that gives the customer access to information during unpacking, installation, diagnostics, fault reporting and programming.
By scanning the tag with a smartphone or tablet running the Signify Service tag app, the client can access information about the contents of the box and troubleshooting details specific to the luminaire. Service tag also allows let them source spare parts and restore factory settings in the field.
Recolight recently teamed up with One Click LCA to provide an environmental data service for lighting manufacturers to help them create Life Cycle Assessments and Environmental Product Declarations for their luminaires.
Recolight’s strategic partnership with One Click LCA follows the recent launch of One Click LCA’s Luminaire EPD Generator, a specialised tool creating EPDs for lighting products.
• A special presentation on the new environmental data service takes place at Circular Lighting Live 2025, Recolight’s flagship conference and exhibition, on Thursday 25 September at the Minster Building in London. Free to specifiers, Circular Lighting Live 2025 will feature leading experts, specifiers and policy makers who will share their insights into forthcoming standards and legislation, emerging technologies and new business models.
