REDUCING YOUR CARBON
Helping you reduce carbon emissions
Recolight is committed to lowering the environmental impact of lamp and luminaire collections by driving down carbon emissions throughout our operations. Through practical innovation, transparent reporting, and an ongoing commitment to improvement, we aim to support a greener, more sustainable lighting industry.
Carbon Emission ReportsÂ
Recolight’s WEEE collection service falls within your scope 3 emissions; as categorised by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
The Recolight Carbon Emission Reports have been developed to help lighting producers, and their customers, to monitor and reduce Scope 3 emissions associated with waste lamp and luminaire collections. This initiative provides the collection partners with detailed assessments of carbon emissions associated with every lighting waste collection managed by Recolight.
In your report
- Clear summary of transport and treatment emissions per collection.
- Data based on vehicle emissions, waste weight and distance travelled.
- Practical tips to cut future collection emissions.
Enhancements to the Recolight booking system use data regarding collection vehicle emissions, weight of waste collected, and distance travelled. DEFRA and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol methodologies have been incorporated into the system. Reports are available free of charge to Recolight WEEE compliance scheme members.Â
Carbon Reduction Champion Award
Each month, Recolight celebrates outstanding achievement in carbon reduction with our Carbon Reduction Champion award.
This certificate is presented to the Recolight Collection Point in our network that has achieved the highest container weight, recognising their exceptional contribution to efficient, high-impact collections.Â
Why does this matter?
Maximising the weight in each collection container reduces the number of collections required; a vital step in lowering carbon emissions from transportation.
Fewer trips. Lower emissions. Greater impact.
This efficiency not only supports the drive to reduce carbon but also sets a powerful example on how simple operational choices can drive measurable environmental benefit.
Helping to reduce emissions for waste collections
Recolight have reviewed the service offered to collection partners, and made the following changes:
- Limited number of next day and short notice container deliveries and collections. This has reduced the need for a dedicated vehicle movement for that one job.
- Aim to collect all containers on a site in one movement. Our IT system alerts us if a site has additional containers that have not been requested for collection.
- Provision of multiple containers to distant and high-volume collection points, so that one vehicle movement can collect multiple containers.
Along with these changes, the Customer Service team educate and encourage collection points to stack containers well, and to only request a collection when the container is full.Â
The sources and scope of emissions
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol provides the most widely recognised accounting standards for greenhouse gas emissions. GHG emissions are categorised into three scopes.
