Circular Lighting Report

Circular Lighting Live: keynote speaker named

John McRae Orms architects

THE KEYNOTE speaker at Circular Lighting Live 2022 has been named as the architect John McRae.

McRae, a partner at award-winning London practice Orms, believes that the involvement of lighting manufacturers in building projects shouldn’t end at commissioning. In fact, he thinks that’s when the partnership truly begins.

McRae will challenge the lighting industry business to change its mindset from a supply to a service model, because that’s where true value will be for top-end clients in the coming years.

McRae told the Circular Lighting Report: ‘Over the last ten years I have developed a strong interest in creating environments that contribute to users’ wellbeing, in part through an ongoing relationship with the charity Teenage Cancer Trust.

‘With them, we developed a design blueprint for developments throughout the UK, including The Skypad Cardiff, which has won a number of prestigious awards.

‘This approach has proved just as valid in workplace projects such as No 1 Cornhill, Capital One and MediaCom, and on our more recent Wigmore Street, Windmill Street and Chancery Lane schemes in central London. It has also translated into our education work, such as the new science building we are developing at Uppingham School.’

His opening address will be followed by presentations, panel discussions and demonstrations from leading experts, specifiers and policy makers.

They’ll share their insights into forthcoming standards and legislation, emerging technologies and new business models.

Organised by Recolight, the industry’s leading environmental compliance authority, and supported by platinum sponsors Signify, gold sponsors DW WindsorLucent Lighting LtdTRILUX and Prime Light, and silver sponsor Holophane, the event is part of the lighting industry’s journey to a low carbon, circular economy.

The event is free to independent fee-based specifiers including lighting designers, consulting engineers and architects.

Aimed at the full supply chain, including manufacturers, suppliers and specifiers, it takes place on Thursday 22 September 2022 at the Cavendish Conference Centre Limited in London.
