Recolight provide the Used Luminaire Certificate for second life lighting products. The service aims to give lighting designers and end-users the confidence to specify re-used lighting.

Many projects generate unnecessary waste by replacing relatively recent lighting products with brand new fittings. Reuse is the easiest mechanism to prevent this, while extending product lifespans, and lowering embodied carbon.

What is a Used Luminaire Certificate?

The certificate provides:

  1. An estimated remaining burn hours based on usage history, industry data, and technical information evaluation.
  2. An embodied carbon estimate for reusing the luminaire, with a comparison with a new product, helping quantify embodied carbon savings when installing the reused product.
  3. (Optional) A structured assessment of the luminaire’s suitability for remanufacture.

Three Levels of Certification

Recolight offer three levels of Certification.

Level 1: Desktop Analysis 

A desktop assessment based on reported data of previous installation duration, location and application. This certificate will provide estimated remaining lifetime and embodied carbon savings, of the product(s) for reuse.

Level 2: Enhanced Evaluation 

Includes all elements of Level 1, but using additional information from Building Management System data from site and physical sample analysis of the luminaire, to refine usage estimates. This certificate is data driven for greater accuracy.

Level 3: Remanufacture Assessment 

Assess reclaimed luminaire for suitability of remanufacture. Providing a quotation from the Regen Initiative for retrofit, including parts replacement, lead times, embodied carbon analysis, waste mitigation analysis and warranty.
