Pendant is made from industrial waste

Contardi Lighting Air Light

Contardi Lighting has unveiled a suspended pendant luminaire which combines refined aesthetics with a strong commitment to sustainability.

The Air Light, developed in collaboration with designer Adam Tihany, reflects a broader shift within the lighting industry towards circular design and responsible material use, without compromising on visual appeal.

Central to the Air Light’s environmental credentials is its construction from Green Cast, an advanced acrylic material produced entirely from recycled industrial waste and end-of-life products. Unlike conventional plastics, Green Cast retains its mechanical, thermal and aesthetic performance even after multiple recycling cycles, enabling the lamp to be fully recyclable at the end of its life. This approach supports the growing emphasis on keeping materials in circulation and reducing reliance on virgin resources.

Sustainability considerations extend beyond material selection into the manufacturing process itself. The lamp’s cream-coloured finish is integrated during production, removing the need for additional lacquering stages. By eliminating this extra treatment, Contardi reduces material consumption and lowers the environmental impact associated with finishing processes, while also simplifying future recycling.

Visually, the Air Light is defined by a distinctive dual lampshade design. Laser-engraved cuts introduce a subtle play of light and shadow, enhancing the lamp’s sculptural quality and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Its lightweight form gives the impression of floating, reinforcing the ethereal character suggested by its name.

Energy efficiency is delivered through integrated LED technology, with light emitted both upwards and downwards to create a soft, balanced glow. This not only reduces energy consumption but also contributes to a calm, comfortable ambience suited to a wide range of interior settings.

As the lighting sector continues to embrace sustainable luxury, the Air Light illustrates how innovative materials, efficient technologies and enduring craftsmanship can come together. The result is a product designed to enhance spaces today while aligning with long-term environmental responsibility.
