Lights at Royal Hall in Bridlington are remanufactured

The distinctive pyramid lights at the historic Royal Hall in Bridlington Spa in Yorkshire have been remanufactured and upgraded to LED.
Sustainable lighting specialist The Regen Initiative developed a bespoke solution for the luminaires.
Working directly with the electrical engineering team at East Riding Council, the site was surveyed, which led the team developing a solution.
Each of the seven inverted pyramids originally contained five gear trays, each housing 6 x 55W PL-L fluorescent lamps. As a result, each pyramid consumed about 2kW of energy in operation.
Thankfully, consideration had been given to maintenance as part of the original design and installation, so accessing the existing gear trays was easy.
The Regen Initiative proposed removing and retaining the gear trays, stripping out the old lamp technology, replacing with LED components, then testing and refiting the upgraded gear tray.
The LED conversion assemblies were supplied to site as a self-contained gear tray, which could be assembled and tested at the factory before leaving for site. In doing this, the installation became more about mechanical location to the existing gear tray, than having to do any complex electrical installation in a dusty roof void environment.
Data sheets and methodology for conversion were created and issued to the installation team. This information provided a step-by-step guide to the conversions, which all happened in situ on site.
The fast-paced project not only achieved impressive reductions in energy, embodied carbon and e-waste, but it also restored the quality of light in each pyramid.
The new products integrated with the existing house and DMX stage dimming system seamlessly and worked without the need of additional commissioning
East Riding of Yorkshire Council building services engineer James Martin told the Circular Lighting Report: ‘The Regen Initiative came to site to undertake a survey of the existing gear trays and took measurements, photographs and began to formulate design ideas, from the offset they listened to our comments and requirements and have created a product that not only looks good, uses less power and illuminates well, but ensures ease of ongoing maintainability’.
