Ridi Lighting has generated 1 million kWh of electricity from the solar panels on the roof of its factory in Germany, the company has announced.
The photovoltaic installation was commissioned in February 2024 for its plant in the German town of Jungingen. Ridi says it’s enough to power around 280 single-family homes with sustainable energy for an entire year.
The company says that it integrates sustainability at the core of its strategy—encompassing production, product design, energy sourcing, waste reduction, and social responsibility.
Since 2011, Ridi has bought low‑carbon heat and power from the nearby BEK Bioenergie Killertal’s biomass plant, which delivers nearly carbon‑neutral thermal energy to heat and climate‑control its facilities—resulting in up to 90 per cent reductions in oil usage and covering around 45 per cent of its electricity needs via photovoltaics and combined heat‑power systems.
Product sustainability is emphasised early in development, says the firm. Ridi luminaires are designed for long lifespans, modular repairability, and upgradeability: individual components—such as LED boards and electronic drivers—can be replaced, rather than discarding the entire fixture. Packaging uses largely recyclable carton instead of plastics, slashing plastic use in transport materials by up to 80 per cent.
The sustainability ethos extends to refurbishment and reuse: RIDI offers certified refurbished luminaires—repaired, graded and re‑warranty‑covered—as an alternative to new units, reducing waste and extending product lifecycles.
Lastly, intelligent lighting control is embedded via their APCON system and smart modules like the ALBA downlight family, supporting DALI integration for optimised daylight usage and energy saving up to 150 lm/W performance. That supports both environmental and operational efficiency.
Together, the company says that these initiatives illustrate how it is addressing sustainability from energy sourcing and manufacturing to packaging, usage, and end‑of‑life reuse.
