Nordlux has unveiled a linear LED pendant luminaire made from FSC-certified wood, continuing the brand’s exploration of natural materials in contemporary lighting design.
The Akeno – designed by creative duo Bjørn+Balle (Christian Bjørn and Rune Balle) – features a slim and minimalist profile that combines American Ash with refined metal detailing, creating an elegant material mix of wood and brass.
Designed primarily for indoor use, the pendant is constructed with FSC-certified ash sourced from the United States, reinforcing its emphasis on responsibly sourced timber. The dark wood finish is paired with metal accents to achieve a balanced aesthetic that bridges warm natural textures with modern architectural clarity. A clear 300 cm cable supports flexible installation in residential or hospitality settings.
At its core, Akeno integrates an energy-efficient 25W LED light source, delivering 1900 lumens with a warm 3000K colour temperature. The fixture also achieves a high colour rendering index of Ra 90, supporting accurate and comfortable illumination for interior environments. With a rated lifetime of 30,000 hours, the non-replaceable LED module is designed for long-term, low-maintenance operation, reflecting the broader industry shift towards durable, integrated lighting solutions.
The pendant is also fully dimmable and compatible with wall dimmer systems, allowing users to adjust light levels according to ambience and function. Operating at 220–240V and classified as IP20 for indoor use, Akeno is positioned for general architectural and decorative applications rather than damp or outdoor environments.
While the light source is non-replaceable, its long lifespan and energy class E rating underline its efficiency credentials. The double-insulated Class 2 construction further enhances safety in domestic and commercial installations.
Akeno reflects a broader trend towards wooden luminaires in lighting design, where sustainability, tactile materials and minimal form language are increasingly combined with high-performance LED technology.
