Skinflint teams up with sustainable sourcing firm

Skinflint has teamed up with London based sustainable design consultancy Dodds & Shute

Salvaged luminaire supplier Skinflint has teamed up with London based sustainable design consultancy Dodds & Shute to get its reclaimed lights into hospitality projects.

The strategic partnership will see Skinflint products on Dodds & Shute’s approved roster for specification to its clients. It will also sell a range of Skinflint lights – including retro Czech glass pendants, industrial wall lights and other refurbished pieces – sold on the Dodds & Shute website.

Dodds & Shute offers its clients consultancy and sourcing of furnishings for offices, hotels, restaurants, residential properties and developments from concept to completion.

Dodds & Shute monitors its suppliers’ practices through its Sustainability Audit and Supplier Code of Conduct. Its aim is to source the most sustainable products, and help its clients make selections aligned with their values.

In 2018, it launched a comprehensive audit of its suppliers, and have now gathered detailed information on over 150 companies.

This supplier impact measurement and reporting tool provides data and allows the company to communicate the sustainability performance of all products using a leaf, branch and tree rating system. The level of transparency means brands and products can be compared against a consistent framework.

The Supplier Code of Conduct sets minimum requirements for all key suppliers in order to work with the practice. Dodds & Shute says this helps it ensure that it only works with companies following good business practices, for example those adhering to laws, and following the UN Global Compact Principles.

In 2021,Skinflint introduced its ‘Full Circle’ scheme, which went on to win a prestigious Build Back Better Award.

Under the plan, returned lights are then repaired, restored and recertified by and placed back into the market.

Skinflint supplies bars, restaurants, hotels, workplaces and private homes all over the world with light fittings.

‘The work we do at Skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece,’ says company co-founder Chris Miller.
